Retouching

Before & After Comparison

Strong product retouching comes from knowing what to reduce, what to preserve, and what to highlight. The goal is not simply a cleaner image, but a more intentional presentation of the product, its purpose, and its use.

The retouching for this boat-cleaning shot for Hyper Tough’s Power Cleaner involved both restoration and reconstruction. This scene was shifted from fall to a greener seasonal look, the worn dock was replaced with a cleaner dock surface, and the boat was carefully cleaned to remove stickers, scratches, dirt, and age-related distractions. Final refinements to product accuracy, contrast, and sharpness helped give it stronger presence and clarity, creating a cleaner and more effective commercial image overall.

This multi-product image was built from several lighting passes designed to solve different needs within the same frame. The hero product, the lawnmower, and several black products were each lit separately, with a final overall lighting pass used to bring the trailer together as a whole. These passes were then combined into a single final image that gives each product presence while still feeling true to the enclosed trailer environment.

Sometimes a missed on-set detail needs to be resolved after the fact. In this case, safety glasses were added during editing while keeping the subject’s photographed features intact and the final image believable.
